The person I bought my car from did a pretty bad job or removing buffing compound from various places like the vent slots on the hood near the windshield. Its been there for over 3 years now. Any tricks to loosen it up and remove it ?

I'd put the car under the lawn sprinkler for a 1/2 hr, as once the compound re-hydrates, you can remove it with Q-tips or cloths. One way or another, it wants to be moist or it's going to be biotch to get off. Good luck

If water doesn't loosen it rubbing alcohol usually will... Sometimes a toothbrush is useful.. Worst case careful use of a toothpick...
Areas like the hood vents sometimes the paint laid on dry & gravelly & the compound is tough to remove... For that repeated soaking in alcohol is probably your best shot..

Detailing sprays I've used do a good job, at least with old wax, stiff paint brush or similar helps in the cracks n around emblems.
Eagle One Wipe n Shine was the last store bought I used.
