Mopowered Tour 2015
« on: June 16, 2015 - 02:10:58 PM »
For those of you that missed the Hot Rod Power Tour, and want to drive a little more to and from Carlisle:

Dave Ferro and Totally Auto put together their Mopower Tour to end up in Carlisle:
HERE IT IS FOLKS, THE "OFFICIAL ITINERARY"…..
WELCOME TO;
 MoPoweredTour 2015
 Classics Cruise to Carlisle
 A Mopar only road-trip, a vehicular vacation so-to-speak.

BREAKING AWAY FROM THE PACK!
For A DECADE NOW, Mopar Collectors Guide Magazine and Totally Auto Inc., have joined forces to organize the Mopar faithful on the Hot Rod Power Tour. Well known now, is our “Tour Within The Tour” — the MoPowered Tour. Over the decade of running with Chebbies and Phords, the MoPowered Tour has taken on a life of its own. Hot Rod magazines primary tour has also evolved. Much to the dislike of participants, it has simply become too big, too complex and frankly, too full of brand-X.

Now in its 10th-year, things for the Mopar Faithful are going to be a bit different. Those who started the whole thing are breaking away from the pack. Basically it has always been MCG promoting, Totally Auto building and Dave Ferro leading the way with Charlie Dallas on logistics. None of that will change. But NOW, it's all about the ride …… which happens to be where all the fun is to start with!

As you may have read recently in Mopar Collector's Guide Magazine, The MoPoweredTour is going BACK TO ITS ROOTS! Gone will be the traffic jams, long lines and BrandX Sponsorships! In fact, there's no sponsorship, (and their associated rules), at all! Rest assured, (although with a twist), this may just wind up being the best time you can have on wheels. A Mopar only road-trip, a vehicular vacation so-to-speak.

The twist? This year we start on one of the finest driving roads in the country, 318 turns in 11-miles, The Tail of the Dragon. The host hotel is at the base of the Dragon, the famous Iron Horse Resort. Located in the mountains of Western North Carolina, this secluded 39-acre resort is surrounded by the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains. We wind through Gatlinburg TN., the Floyd Garrett Musclecar Museum, over the Smokey Mountains and down Skyline Drive. On the way, we hit, the NRA museum, great Bar-B-Q and even a Kid Rock concert. As the tour nears its end we roll into one of the nation's premiere shows, Carlisle's All-Chrysler Nationals. For the finale; the Daddy of all things Mopar, the prestigious Mopar Hall of Fame!

As in the past, we will be updating you with the antics here on the web. There will be coverage at TotallyAutoInc.com, but this year, for the most up-to-date DAILY, (even hourly) SOMETIMES, LOL, check here, {MoPoweredTour 2015 on F-Book}, often for updates, pit stops, overnight stays, details and all the stuff ALL the participants feel is postworthy.

To quote one participant;
"Talk about a trip of a Lifetime. People dream of Going to Carlisle and Never make it . People see the Hall of Fame on Pages of MCG wish they could be there and never Pull it off . They want to see the Smoky mountains …. Just never Quite get the time . The Dragons Tail, OH Yea that would be Cool Someday. Maybe even If I ever win the Lottery Me and a Bunch of MY Buddies are going to a Big Kid Rock Concert, But it never Happens. This is just a few of the things we are stuffing in a little over a week, across the 4th of July even. This is one of those deals where an Idea has turned to a dream being brought to reality . MoPoweredTour--Classics Cruise To Carlisle, has now become an Epic Adventure !!!!!!!" Mike Meads

Days 1 and 2 Friday/Saturday JULY 3-4

The start will be over JULY 4th Weekend, beginning in North Carolina at THE TAIL of the DRAGON! 318 turns in just 11-miles. The host hotel for the start is the famous Iron Horse Resort ( ironhorsenc.com). Located in the mountains of Western North Carolina, this secluded, 39-acre resort on Stecoah Creek is surrounded by the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains. The area has some of the best driving roads in the world.
HOST HOTEL IS SOLD OUT but please feel free to join us at the kick-off,
 NEXT BEST IS;
 Philips Motel
 290 Main St.
 Robbinsville, NC. 28771
 828-479-3370

We run the roads, THE TAIL of the DRAGON during the day, July 4th. There will be a GROUP photo the morning of July 4th at the Tail-of-the-Dragon Harley Davidson dealer. The actual photo will take place at the large scenic overlook just across the famous route 129. Just figured we'd get at least 1-group pic while we are all clean! We will meet at the Ironhorse Resort the morning of and drive over together…… or cya over there! Our intention over the days in Deals Gap, is to run the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway. There is also the Moonshiner 28, Devils Triangle, and the Diamondback. Free-play as a group if you want to run any of the other 3.

For the evening of July 4th it's back to the resort for a bonfire and kick-off party..

Mopowered Tour 2015 Part 2
« Reply #1 on: June 16, 2015 - 02:11:32 PM »
Day 3 Sunday July 5th

On the 5th we start our journey, beginning in North Carolina heading into Tennessee.
We've made arrangements with the Sidney James Mountain Lodge for the 2nd leg of the journey.

Sidney James Mountain Lodge
 610 Historic Nature Trl,
 Gatlinburg Tn.
 (865) 436-7851.

Let them know you're with the Mopowered Tour. They have been kind enough to reserve the hospitality room for us as a gathering place as well. Tons to do in the area as well as some great driving roads getting there and around town.

And let's not forget Floyd Garrett's museum. Experience one of the largest & most incredible collection of American Made Cars in the nation! See 90 cars worth over $8 million! YES! Mr. Floyd Garrett will open the doors to his famed Muscle Car Museum and offer preferential parking for our rolling Mopar Car Show. Always the host-with-the-most Floyd is a nationally known "muscle car" expert.

http://www.musclecarmuseum.com/

The Gatlinburg area itself is nestled at the entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the most visited national park in America. This little car-town of 3,944 residents is dedicated to welcoming all of its guests with a taste of Appalachian hospitality at its best.

http://www.gatlinburg.com/

Just 100-miles from our start in the mountains of Western North Carolina, this short-run will be a fun filled trip through the Great Smokey mountains, lots of twisties and great photo ops for the both car-owners and MCG magazine. We plan a day-trip to the "Top of the Smokies" for those that feel 100-miles is simply just not enough……

Day 4 Monday July 6th

We take both the high and low roads en route to Blacksburg Va for the evening. This will be a fairly long driving day. Approximately 250 miles but, we're not taking the interstates. Our route will take us on mainly back roads and some small highways unless of course we decide to cut our own roads. (Don't laugh, its happened before, although not over the top of a mountain range).
We're having a pool party and some R&R for the evening.

We've made arrangements with :
 Days Inn,
 3530 Holiday Lane,
 Blacksburg Va. 24060.
 540-951-1330.

They have set aside a block of rooms for us to be together and have given us their blessing for hanging out around the pool and the parking lot and enjoying ourselves. Their only request is no glass around the pool. Gave us a great rate as well.

Day 5 Tuesday July 7th

We will be taking a good bit of the Blue Ridge Parkway with a stop at The National D-Day Memorial in Bedford Va along the way. This is approximately a 200 mile day in total but worth the stop at the Memorial.

The hotel is :
 Days Inn Waynesboro.
 2060 Rosser Ave.
 Waynesboro.
 540-943-1101.

Pool and/or Parking lot party that evening! They are going to put us all together on one side of the hotel so all the cars will be together. We're working on something for the evening as well however, the establishment is in the process of changing ownership and until that is complete we won't know if they will be able to accommodate us or not.

Day 6 Wednesday July 8th

Stop 5 of the tour on July 8 will be in Manassas Va.
Our route from Waynesboro will include Skyline Drive in its entirety. (There is a $15 per car fee) While this is not a long day mileage wise, Skyline Drive is a beautiful 2 lane road across the top of the Shenandoah Mountain range where if we're lucky you might see some of the local wildlife going about there business. The one thing to remember is that the speed limit is 35 mph and it is enforced so be careful. There are literally hundreds of scenic views to stop and take photos. This ones not a drag race.

We have made arrangements with:

Red Roof Inn Plus.
 10610 automotive drive.
 Manassas Va.
 Call 800-733-7663.
Our block code is B192MOPOTR. $68 plus tx.

A lot of us will be attending the Kid Rock concert at Jiffy Lube Live THIS EVENING. He is, after all, the proud Son Of Detroit. Rock has taken us out on the road and….to the party. Where he's going tends to be a lot of places and this time it's to entertain Mopar folk at the Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia! HE SELLS OUT FAST so, if this interests you, get off the couch and go get some tics, CYA there!
For those who do not wish to go to the concert, we are 5 minutes from Manassas Battlefield which is a great stop for you history buffs.

Day 7 Thursday July 9th

As we wind into the tour, our trip from Manassas to Camp Hill will include a few stops along the way. Overall about 150 miles total for the day.

Thursday Morning, The NRA National Firearms Museum in Fairfax Va.
Founded in 1871, The National Rifle Association of America (NRA) is an American non-profit organization whose primary mission is to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, especially the right to keep and bear arms.
Expect a "private tour" that has been scheduled for a 9:30 start for our group. It will last about an hour and then there's an hour to look around on your own. The museum is located approximately 18 miles from the hotel but there will be traffic as Rt 66 is the main corridor into DC from Va so allow an hour or so to make sure you get there on time.

Our next stop is about 15 miles from the NRA museum. We are going to stop at the Udar-Hazey Air and Space museum on the grounds of Dulles Airport. This houses part of the Smithsonian collection including an SR-71 Blackbird (as seen in the Transformers movie which was filmed here), the Enola Gay and The Space Shuttle Discovery among the many artifacts. This museum bleeds Red, White and Blue pride. There is a per car load parking fee of $15 however the museum itself is free. They have parking for over 2000 vehicles and they stated will be able to find a parking area for us only as they are not busy on a Thursday morning. We have made arrangements for a Group Tour specifically for us, which is slated to start at 12:30 and will last approximately 2 hours. The tour guides are all volunteers and for the most part they are all veterans of various wars.

Our final stop this day will be at Gettysburg Battlefield. Remember, we're in no rush so take your time and reflect on those that gave their lives many years ago, and those that continue to do so everyday, to allow us the freedoms we currently have.

Thursday night will be a well deserved wind-down night and maybe car clean-up (there is a car wash station provided) at the Camp Hill Radisson. We will be there for the remaining 3-nights

1150 Camp Hill Bypass
 Camp Hill
 Pennsylvania
 17011
 (717) 763-7117

Mention "Mopar Hall of Fame" for the discounted rate

Day 8 Friday July 10th

The beginning of the Chrysler Nationals during the day. REMEMBER? We are going to CARLISLE for the Chrysler Nationals!
We have been offered special (MoPoweredTourers Only) convenient parking on the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals fairgrounds for the weekend of the event. As space and parking is ALWAYS at a premium at this enormous show, we humbly thank the Carlisle Staff for this generous offer to showcase those who went the distance!
NOTE: This parking will be only for those that run the entire distance. Gonna be a good run!

For the evening; the infamous MCG MoParty by the pool! You've read about it in the magazine, now experience it for yourself. Starting when the sun-sets on the first day of Carlisle's Chrysler Nationals!

Day 9 Saturday July 11th

It is CARLISLE TIME, Welcome to a true Mopar-lover’s paradise. There’s nothing quite like it anywhere in the world with over 2,400 vehicles from all eras of the Chrysler brand. You need to be here for the enormous showfield that is organized by year, make and model, special indoor displays, activities for the kids, industry guests, and special prizes. You’ll be amazed at the size of the swap meet, the variety of vendors, the car corral, and the Manufacturers Midway.

WINDING DOWN THE ROAD TO OUR FINAL DESTINATION 2015; an awesome evening is planned
Once again MCG has procured the Ballroom at the Camp Hill Radisson, near Carlisle as ground zero for all the Mopar Hall of Fame action. Tickets will be available soon by calling 225 274 0609.

This special pricing is only available by calling and is NOT listed on the website!
 Space is limited.

Dinner, desert and a night the likes of which are hard to duplicate. We are waiting on the list of 2015 inductees but info will be posted here soon. Those that have been there, please, let us know about your experiences.
AND THE WHOLE THING WILL BE FEATURED IN THE PAGES OF MOPAR COLLECTOR'S GUIDE MAGAZINE!

I have my PTO approved for the full week and secured my room at the Red Roof for Wed. Eve. 850 miles, door to VA hotel. Cruising with the Mopar gang to the NRA museum and other sites on Thursday, then on to Carlisle on Friday.  See you all there. Had my 440-4Sp Challenger on the full Power Tour and spent over $700 in gas last week. I had changed out the overdrive trans for a standard 4 speed looking for a whine noise, which ended up being my pig. The 10 to 12 mpg really added up fast sometimes paying $3.199 for 93 octane and driving over $3000 miles in 8 days. Carlisle is probably another 860 miles back to home, so I'm taking the small block with overdrive and 2:73 gears.  1850 Rpm at 75 mph. AND it uses 87 octane.
