« on: May 29, 2015 - 08:22:16 PM »
:1zhelp: Guys I need the collaborative wisdom of all you mopar gods.  I am having huge issues with my fender to door gaps and the contours. I have attached a picture but if you could check my resto thread you can see the FULL issue. I would love some advice.  :clueless: :clueless:

If I remember right there is a bolt inside of the fender that bolts to an ell bracket that attaches to the inner fender to pull the fender down to match body line. After body line is correct then you can bend up on the windshield part of fender to match hood and door.

:wavingflag: Does anybody have a picture of the brackets? And where could I get them? my originals did not have any upper brackets but I see a hole where one might go.

The fender gets a stud, and goes through that bracket with a large washer nut. You mount the the bracket a little lower then the fender's current location and when you tighten the nut, it pulls the fender down into location.

If you find the fender still doesn't want to go low enough, some body "English" is req'd. Simply and literally, push the outer upper edge of the fender down which will open the angle it's made at by bending the fender. Do it until you have a fit to the door, BUT, check the door fit first. These cars commonly had bottom of door to rocker gaps that you can slide your fingers under and if someone tried to close those gaps up by moving the door to the very bottom of it's adjustment range, you may never get the tops to match nicely. As in most things, compromise is a nice word to learn. Personally, I'm going to weld on extensions to the bottom of my doors to close those gaps. Good luck

You have two issues at hand with trying to align the fender and the door. You will notice there is little to no contour where the fender matches up to the door. There is a curve in the door that fender needs before the fender can  be lowered or the door raised. I don't know if it is just the light but it looks as though the fender has been bent or flattened out. You may have to mount the hood to make sure all three are in alignment.  :2cents:

There's no curvature in the top of the fender and that's what God invented hammers and blocks of wood for. If you want to be nice, grind or whittle the edges of a piece of soft wood like pine so that it's close to the configuration that you're after and supporting the upper outer end, use your block and clouter to make the curve you need. Slow, easy blows should do it, but if the top is really strong, you may have to "give 'er" a bit. Mind the windshield or better yet, take it off and do it on the bench with many checks for effectiveness. You'll have to bondo up some wee dings, but that's life. Good luck.

:wavingflag: Well I just got my new brackets and the fenders pulled right into place.  Yes the curvature was  off a little of but a little dolley work and they look good. I will pot updated pics on my thread. Thanks for the advice!
