A/C Heater box question?
« on: June 10, 2014 - 07:44:41 PM »
Hi all, finally finished rebuilding the heater box (This is on a 73 A/C Barracuda), which after pulling it out, it definitely needed it. Here are some before & after pics.

I had a question on the box before I go installing it back - I decided to test everything last night by hooking up my vacuum pump, to make sure everything worked. As far as I can tell, all the pods and doors operated as they should.
I then decided to hook up the lines back to the actual heater A/C switch - this is the part I got confused on, as I thought it might should work. It really wouldn't hold any vacuum while hooked to the switch, no matter what setting it was on, but if I kept pumping up the pump while trying the switch, it did operate some of the doors. If I unhooked the lines from the switch, and just held my hand over the rubber plug (picture below), then it would hold a vacuum just fine - is my switch possibly bad, or am I doing something wrong? I bought the switch back around 1993 when the other one just fell apart, but it really hasn't been used much, and the vacuum line from under the hood had been unhooked for a good while before I took it off the road, which was a very long time ago too.  Also, what are the electrical connections on the back of the switch for, I'm guessing for kicking in the A/C, but is it for anything else?   Thanks!

Did you figure this problem out? What did you use to clean up the box so well?
