Shaker rubber seal is too short
« on: June 06, 2015 - 10:22:05 PM »
I bought the shaker rubber seal from Ben Snobar and no matter how hard I tried to stretch it so they'd meet, it wasn't going to happen. It was like it was a foot too short of them meeting together.

I also noticed that it looks like one portion of the seal goes underneath the lip edge while the top seal rides on top.  Is that the way it suppoed to be? Or does it just glue on top?

Who sells the best shaker seal that goes on without any fitment issues, i.e: no stretching to fit, etc?

Mike, Fremont, CA.

Very wrong.  It got me wondering if a T/A. Base that seals to the fiberglass hood is smaller than a shaker base and that is the seal for a T/A.   :dunno:

I think you could be right it is smaller. I agree with Bigs, send it back!

For my T/A  base I got it here, and it was longer than needed , I trimmed off the excess.

Send it back and if Ben does not make it right we need to know. In my opinion, he should foot the shipping all the way around. That is obviously a mis-cut seal. :swear:

Its cut too short. I bought mine from Dales Cuda Shop and had to cut off a couple inches.
Part of the seal fits on top and bottom. I cut a piece of rubber hose that fit inside of the seals ends and glued it together so that it looks almost like one continuous piece.
I bought a bag of wooded clothes pins from Wal-Mart and placed them about every 2" and left it over night. The next day I removed the pins, placed wax paper along the inner top edge and then put the shaker on and tightened it down. When I removed it the next day, I knew exactly where I needed to clean up any glue that got squished out without the hassle of having to pry the top back off.

Ben took care of me today.

Sending me the right one ASAP at no charge.

He told me that the one he sent, was sent out by one of his helper/shipping people by mistake.
It was for a T/A or AAR.

Thanks for the update. I figured he would make it right once you explained the issues. Met Ben years ago at Portland Swap Meet. Seemed like a good guy then and I have bought stuff from him.  :2thumbs:

I've wanted to buy from them but chose not to. I tried buying a T/A air  cleaner set up at their Carlisle tent about 10 years ago. I tried asking a couple questions but the two guys behind the table were really rude to me. I don't offend easy but they were jerks.

It's bad enough their stuff is way overpriced. But I hate rewarding bad behavior.

Maybe I had one isolated bad experience and I shouldn't boycott them?
