4 wheel discs. What MC to use? Booster needed?
« on: August 15, 2015 - 11:25:13 AM »
Need some input on my brake system. 1970 Challenger. Originally with four drum manual brakes.
I am putting on four wheel disc brakes.  I bought the conversion kit from Dr. Diff.
Question I have is what master cylinder to run and do I need to run a booster for the system?.
Thx. Doug.

I switched my '71 Challenger from drums to 4 disc, added a MC from Napa and kept the stock booster.  I was nervous about the single diaphragm booster so I added a vacuum pump in the trunk that was way too loud.

I eventually bought a hydro-boost system eventually and that would be my recommendation.  Pricey but worth it in the end.

No need for a booster.  You'll have better feel without it.

make sure you do not have a residual pressure valve in whatever master you do use , the factory masters use a rubber valve behind the brass insert where the line screws into the master , use a drywall screw to pull the insert & remove the valve .
If you want boost I would use a hydro boost if you have power steering , the later 2 bolt alum masters work great & have a large shared reservoir

The alum 2 bolt master 1 1/8" bore is common. I love hydro boost as well as well as being a dealer. Some systems can't be run manually and work properly.
