70 Challenger convertible top
« on: June 22, 2015 - 02:36:18 PM »
On this Challenger I just got, the convertible top was off the car when I got it. Are there special bolts that hold it on? Looks like 4 bolts on each side for the frame and a bunch of bolts around the back that hold the top in. If anybody knows what they are or have them to sell let me know. Thanks

Check out the link below, as that may be the bolt needed. Way overpriced in my opinion. I would think you could have them machined if you could not find some. Possibly even some bolts off a brand "X" may fir the bill.  :2cents:

Isn't that the truth.  :roflsmiley:

And a note: the seat belt bolts look very similar. There are various sizes of those so who knows.
I need to look at mine and see if the bolts compare to seat belt bolts.

Wow! It's only 5/16 nuts  spot welded on the car. That bolt looks like a pressure plate bolt. There must be a special washer because the top frame has about a 1" hole that the bolt goes through

The holes on the frame are larger than the bolt to allow adjustment/alignment of the frame.

Are these the bolts your asking about?

First the bolts on Ebay don't mount the top to the car, they attach the two struts in the rear... there are there bolts per side and as mentioned the hole in the top frame is oversized & you could adjust the fop there but you aren't supposed to... There are two 1/2" holes in each side that go through the top frame an the structure that it mounts to, you slide alignment pins through those holes while you bolt the top on.... There should also be a series of T bolts around the rear body that secure the three tack strips to the top well... Once the top well is secure the well liner snaps onto the other side of the tack strips...

Yea Tom those are the side bolts you circled. Do you have a picture of what those T bolts  Wild R/T  was talking about for the back and how that setup is put together ?

I think this is the T-bolt. That thread above shows it about half way down on page 11.
