Stereo woes
« on: July 31, 2015 - 05:02:46 PM »
I have a 70 Challenger 340. I had the alternator rebuilt a few yeas back (500 miles ago). I had a Sony deck installed and it kept draining the battery. Friend said it had an interior short, so I bought a Kenwood deck and had it installed. The deck keeps shutting off. It hold the radio stations but shuts on and off when I rev the car and drive it. The installer then connected to the battery and said it wa s fine now, but before I didn't make enough power. THe first deck had no problems keeping power and  this one can't stay on. Once he ran from the battery-it was better, but still not fixed. Any thoughts?

 :clueless:

Have you installed the alternator bypass (wire from alternator to starter relay or battery)?

If not, you might be getting voltage drop from alternator through firewall connector/amp gauge/firewall connector to battery for charging... (low voltage at battery with high current draws for sound components/headlights/etc...)
