Is a Front/Rear Brake Adjuster Needed?

Does anyone know if a brake bias adjuster is needed for a stock 71 Barracuda front disc rear drum setup?

The car would have originally come with a brass proportioning valve.  The factory piece was not adjustable.  I believe they are available in reproduction.  Some of the reproduction prop valves had issues.  I don't know if there are issues with that one in particular.  Aftermarket adjustable valves are available as well but will require modifications to the brake lines to get them to fit.

NOte that there are several reproductions out there and they can be found on the bay as well.  about 80 bux is your target price.

Thanks guys!  That thread is helpful.  I replaced the front drums with discs 20 years ago and a stock disc/drum MC, but didnt know anything about proportioning valves back then.

Just put new front calipers, SS hoses, and replaceing MC and Booster this weekend.  Getting close to an inspection sticker!

Be sure to have a deep socket for the nut above the pedal linkage - You'll need that + a 6" extension and a universal joint.   PLUS a stubby ratcheting drive.

You'll be looping that up and over the brake pedal assembly to get the top booster nut undone.    If you're lucky, you can have a straight shot with a 30 degree head and a drill motor.   


Putting that back on- i used a dab of grease to hold the nut in the deep socket while I fished around to get the nut onto the bolt.
