Cost of rebuilding?
« on: May 26, 2005 - 08:30:20 PM »
I picked up a 727 out of a 67 charger for my 73 challenger. How much should i expect to be charged for the rebuild? I already have the TQ converter, shift kit, and a new valve body (tranny guy said those years tranny's have problems with the valve bodies tending to crack) It's a big block 727 if that makes a difference. It is being built for high performance specs. I told the guy i want it to be able to handle 500+ HP but my car is only putting down around 425, just to be on the safe side. This is my first time paying for a tranny rebuild I just wanna get an idea on what to expect so i know if he's trying to rip me off or giving me a good deal.

Thanks in advance, Adam

Also any other comments, like things i should be careful of or thing i should have him do to the trans would be greatly appreciated.

More clutches!!! :grinyes:  A little more gripping power for 2nd and 3rd!!

If you're have a REAL trans shop do it, expect $750-$1000... if you're having a GOOD trans guy do it on the side... probably about $500...

Hope that helps some!

well you where right *****'n blue. Gave me a price of 900+. I called around to a few places to see if i can get a better deal. If they all come in around the same, there will be a 727 up for sale for cheap money and a TCI will be at my doorstep next weekend.

Id keep this one and have it rebuilt, its better to have a local guy do the work so if you have any problems there right there, and what about shipping that 900 tranny. we bought a sb 727 in the yard with low mileage and brought it to a good tranny guy in phoenix, had to replace one band from very light scratches just to be same and re seal in price for tranny and service was just over 350.
