Center console ID Help

When i purchased my 70 challenger it had two center consoles in the trunk.  The car was originally an automatic car but i'm converting it to a 4 speed manual.

My question is whats the difference between these two center consoles, and which one should I run?  One appears to be for an AC car and the other one is a lot thinner.

The 70 console is the one with the 8 track bracket on the front of it unfortunately. The bottom looks 4 speed ready.

The correct 70 console is the one in the top of your picture with the larger rectangle hole on the end of it for the seat belts...Unfortunately as Sheldon stated, the metal bracket on the front is not factory

Thanks for the info. So if I'm running a 4 speed I should run the bottom one?

I don't think either one is correct for a 4spd, but if not, they can be cut to fit. It's hard to tell from the picture.

I guess I'm asking which will fit better, the top one is a lot thicker the bottom one appears to have a little larger opening on it, I will see if I can find anymore part numbers

That's because one of them is completely MISSING the bottom section. All the console are two piece design. Plus you're missing the console door and top plate of course.

You can find the template to convert an auto console online or on ebay I don't remember which.

You will also need a 4 speed top plate to finish her off along with a console door, hinges and a lock.

So... I think the top plates are the same whether 4-speed or not. It's the bottom that is different, no? (And as mentioned the bottom you have can be trimmed into a 4-speed shape. Someone on here has the template I'm sure)

That aside... it looks like you have a very decent '70-only top console section. (pretty rare)

From the pics, the only real issue I see is the 8-track bracket. Easy fix, though. I repaired a hole on mine by melting some plastic (from the 4-speed cutout I made in lower section ;-) into the hole from the back, while having a leather-pattern from a vinyl repair kit on the front. After a refinish with all the SEM prep and landau black.... even I can't find it.

Looks to me like the 70 console is missing a section of the thin strip next to the shifter opening.
The 71-up console is not missing but broken in the same place... :dunno:

Yep the center strip is broken on both of them. The bottom half is removeable so you can take it off the 71 and later console and install it on the 70. The trim plate with the woodgrain installed is different 4 speed to automatic.
