Help an Idiot..
« on: July 09, 2015 - 05:51:53 AM »
Hi guys,

It seems i created a situation for myself and could use a hand trying to figure out where to go from here..

Ok ill go through the steps of what i did and what went wrong

Started installing the Headlight bypass kit
Had everything mounted
connected only the relay trigger connector into the original drivers side headlight plug
connect up all four headlights to new ceramic plugs

went to connect the main power wire terminals to the alternator and managed to snap the battery charge thread  :banghead:

Took out the alternator and opened it up and went down to an auto electrician to see if repairable, where i was informed i could just put any old bolt in there and it will be fine
Put new bolt in Alternator, closed it all up and remounted it
Decided to put battery back on car and hook it up so i can test the alternator was fine
Hooked up the terminals and sizzle and pop goes the fuse link wire right next to me.... :pullinghair:

Is the alternator shorting? or is it because forgot to take off the relay trigger connector?  should i just go buy another fuse link wire or is there more damage done?

really would appreciate some help as i am out of my depth now..

Cheers.

Sounds like you might have forgotten to put back the insulator washers on the stud when you replaced it.
Most likely its shorted to the case/ground causing your problem.

For Au$120, you can get a new replacement Alternator, same as factory from Rockauto, delivered in 4-5 days to your door :2thumbs:
