Brake Warning Light
« on: July 09, 2015 - 10:43:21 PM »
On a '71 Cuda, I know it monitors brake pressure by detecting differential pressure between the front and rear. Does it monitor the parking brake as well? Is the brake warning light supposed to illuminate if the parking brake is on? Although I haven't tested the master cylinder brake switch by opening a bleed on a wheel cylinder, my light doesn't come on with the application of the parking brake. Also, I just installed LED bulbs in all my dash lights and there is a VERY faint red glow in the brake light...not visible with the shroud and lens installed. That tells me the system may have a very weak short to ground some where.....that's what turns on the light. Any ideas?

Yes it monitors the emergency brake as well.  Note the light will only work with the key turned on.

Is the wire connected to the switch on the E-brake assembly?

I think I found out why.....my switch is missing on the E brake assembly. I didn't yet check to see if the wire is there. Probably wait until winter. The car has been down long enough this year.
