Fan shroud and axle originality
« on: July 16, 2015 - 08:14:05 AM »
Hi,

Some originality questions came up recently. First, was a fan shroud original equipment or optional, maybe depending on fender tag codes? A mechanic had a look at my Challenger and asked if I don't get heat problems as it is missing. Never noticed any overheating except when the v-belt cracked. The 26" radiator though has something like mounting holes.

Second, I noticed I must have a 3.55 rear end with Sure Grip, couldn't find any documents though that this came from the factory that way, nor that this was included in any of the codes below.

Any hints maybe? Just for my curiosity. :) Attached the codes if that helps:

V1F V5F Y14 26 END
M91 N41 N42 N85 R11
G34 H51 J25 J45 J54 M21
V1F A04 A62 B51 C16 C55
DY3 H6F8 000 126 ....
E63 D13 JS23 N0E ....

Many thanks!
Kristof

Definitely should have a shroud.... All 26" radiators got shrouds & yours is an A/C car...
No gear code on the tag, got a broadcast sheet?

Ok, thanks! I was just wondering as I saw numerous pictures of E-body engine bays without it....

Well I couldn't find any, I simply counted the turns of wheel & cardan which lead to 3,5 and a bit so I guess 3.55. Broadcast sheet missing too...Maybe I still find one under the back seat if I finally manage to get it out  :swear: So... does that mean that only some common codes are on the Fender tag and even more can be on the broadcast sheet?

Nice color combo, crazy rare....
Well.... I guess it depends on the eye of the beholder. I prefer the current red/black paint over eye cancer cream/green.  :icon16: Yes rare, but mostly unpopular.

Next "local" dealer would be a couple of 100 miles away ;) We got only a hand full of specialized shops over here. But ofc the internet makes it possible to order from overseas, so that's no real problem.
As I said, I was just curious if the shroud should be there or not. Now I know and will try to get one.

I knew the car isn't factory original at two points (4-speed, colorchange), and it doesn't really matter if there is a 3.23 or 3.55 built in and what was originally built in or not. For me it's just to know about the history of the car. ;) It's no collector, but no Frankenstein either.  :grinno:
