70 Barracuda Emergency Brake Assembly DOA
« on: July 20, 2015 - 09:58:42 PM »
My e-brake assembly might be kaputz! I can push down on it by hand and it does not "ratchet". I can hear and feel the brake shoes tighten, but the FOOT LEVER does not RATCHET or LOCK. The release lever is sloppy, it travels forward and back, feels like it is not attached to anything.

Without a schematic of the e-brake assembly, I am at a loss. Can anyone recommend a trouble shoot? Any pics or schematics of the assembly? Should I just source and replace the assembly? Can this be done without having to replace the e-brake cables? Thank you for your help in advance.

The small spring either broke or fell off. Mega Parts sells new ones :2cents:

If the long spring on the release is there but has managed to find it's way through the hole because the rubber grommet is missing on the bracket, you may be able to fix it with a small hose clamp to keep it from going through the hole.
Don't ask me how I know...

This is the spring kit Alan mentioned.
