Anybody use Skype ?
« on: July 21, 2015 - 06:03:28 PM »
Putting this here because the computer is a tool. Anyway, Jim ( Toxicwolf ) came and helped me download it today. My landlord is out of the country some and wanted us to have a way to comunicate when he's away. I help take care of the property. Well we just tested it and wow, this is such an amazing tool that can be used in the building of cars. So then I find out it's been around for like 15 years.  Anyway, it's really cool.   :2thumbs:

It really is a great tool for showing a friend some problem you may be having with your car and getting expert input, and the helper never needs to get out of the proverbial easy-chair.   :2thumbs:

That and e-mail were the only communications I had to the States when I was in Saudi, and the e-mails were sometimes "filtered"

I use the free version of Skype and it is pretty hit or miss, usually marginal in audio and visual quality.  Should I pay for a subscription?

In my experience, the problems were always caused by issues with my internet connection. I don't think I ever had a problem with Skype itself.

:iagree:  My best guess is that you really need a clean 4 megabit or better speed.  You can stream at slower speeds but their performance can be sporadic. I have streamed vidio on dial-up (in the stone ages) so slower speeds work but not as well.  :2cents:

Theres no quality difference in the free or paid version of Skype, only more features if you pay for it. I use both. But even if you have a good internet connection, there can be interruptions and delays sometimes, bottlenecks on the internet I guess. I have 1000 MBit fiberconnection in my studio and still get a bad Skype connection from time to time.
