4 speed shift question
« on: July 28, 2015 - 12:39:33 PM »
for as far back as I can remember (which is not that far, lol) when down shifting into 1st the car needs to be almost at a stop, maybe 5 mph. I just changed to Redline MTL and while there is an improvment in smoothness the down shifting into 1st below 5 mph didn't change. Not that I want to shift into 1st while going any faster but is this pretty much normal? Also, back in the early 70's I remember power shifting my Roadrunner without and trouble. With this tranny while power shifting it just won't go into the next gear without ever so slightly lifting off the gas. Was my memory wrong?

The Syncro rings are probably worn out , the syncro has to grip the gear & slow it down , if it cannot grip well you have to be moving slower to closely match the gear speeds
