Wiper blade hits molding?
« on: August 19, 2015 - 02:21:40 PM »
This has been happening for years now. I'm finally going to figure out how to stop it. When the left wiper get to the bottom of it's travel then arm that keeps the blade in the correct position when moving hits the stainless molding. Not only is it annoying but it scratches the molding. I've looked and looked and can't find anything wrong. The arms don't look bent in any way. I have repro wiper blades.  Could these blades be narrower and make the arms sit lower so the rivet that holds the other arm hits the molding? The molding is sitting flat on the glass.

Could you show a pic? When you say molding, you mean the trim which attach to the glass and the blade rests on?

Mine does the same thing.  I think the arm, etc. needs replacement.

Had same problem. Took arm off, put it in a vise and twisted it a little till the pivoting arm cleared the windshield moulding. Trial and error on the twisting. Took a few attempts till I got it to clear freely. No problems now. The PO left it that way and I have scratches in the glass too. I also have the Anco OEM 3 piece wiper blade. The PO had an aftermarket blade. Lower profile and helps with clearance between the hood and moulding. It's the main arm I twisted not the articulating one.

Yes the trim piece the blade sits on. Taking the are off and twisting it in the vise was what I was going to do but I thought I'd ask first to see if it was something I just wasn't seeing.

Got it! I did like you said and took the arm off put it in a vise and gave it a little twist. Now the wipers work great. Thanks
