Bazooka tubes any good?
« on: August 29, 2015 - 08:00:17 PM »
Has anyone installed a Bazooka tube sub woofer? I'm wondering how well it will work. The 6x9's can't compete with the exhaust noise. The base is washed out.

I had one in a past car. I couldn't stand it, too much bass for me. I even had it turned down as low as it went.

I highly recommend it if you want everybody at the stoplight around you watch your car make rattling noises from all the vibrations...like the License plate frame vibrating.  :eek4:

With just a custom autosound radio that's 50 watts per channel....2 kicker 6*9's in the back the bass is way more than expected!

It sounds like you have a power/wattage issue.... Not speaker size issue.

Thanks for the info guys! Im not looking for that amount of base! The problem is elsewhere and I'll go over the installation. I might have reversed polarity on the 6x9's or the Alpine amp needs adjustment. This audio stuff is new to me. :clueless:

I have a bazooka tube in the trunk and only have it because it's a convertible and needed some base with the limited speakers . It works great. It will not be overpowering but fills on nicely

I would recommend you go to a big car stereo audio shop and do some good fact finding.

For me...Major Bass is annoying as it hurts my eardrums.
I already lost hearing in one ear from numerous Concerts, earaches, and M-16's in the Military.

I value my hearing now in my one good ear and I hope you re think how much noise compression you really need in a closed cabin of a car.    :2cents:

I used to do stereos when I was younger. I had one in my truck.. really good easy to hook up ...you can control the level...and don't draw a lot of power which is good with our cars.....I will not put one in my car...I'd rather hear the ponies scream...

With a good set of 6x9s and a small amp you can rock!  The trunk acts like a big box and amplify the bass..I'm guessing something isn't set up right... :2cents:

Well after doing some checking, I found that one of the DIP switches on the amp was set to Low Pass filter for the rear speakers. Duh! Reset to off and it sounds 100% better. It could still use a little fill in base. May be some better quality 6x9s will do. Anyone running Alpine 3 ways? How are they? I've got the Alpine 10 speaker audio system in my Dodge 3500 and it sounds incredible, so I'm a bit spoiled. If I can get the Challenger to sound 1/2 as good I'll be happy!

I saw Kickers brand when I was shopping for 6x9s ( in Wally World). I wound up getting Schosche speakers and a head unit. I liked the bluetooth feature, iPhone app etc. plus the components matched. It was not big money so I don't feel bad about upgrading. The speakers are rated at 25hz to 20khz, but I think the 25hz is asking too much of these things. They can sometimes sound like someone hitting the bottom of a 20oz styrofoam coffee cup with a spoon. :eek7:

I'll check out Kickers speakers next. Does anyone have experience with mini (underseat) sub woofer speaker? i.e. Kenwood etc? I'm not looking for heavy base at all (too old for that), just some small fill in.
