340 Truck Engine?
« on: September 08, 2015 - 11:36:41 AM »
I've gotten into a bit of a restoration project with my father.  It's a 70 cuda that was originally a slant six but I've purchased a rolling chassis and intend on making it worth having.  (it has several issues that I will be correcting, front fenders and bumpers being from the wrong year for starters)

I've found a '69 Dodge D100 that has a 340 4 barrel engine that I would like to put into this car.  Was there any difference in the engines they put into the trucks from the cars? :1zhelp:

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

If it helps, here are the block numbers the seller has provided.

drivers side = 2780930-340-6,  passenger side = 9B340336, stamped 12.9.68

Thanks,
Tim

so it is a 69 340 steel crank high compression 340 which should be an awesome engine assuming it is relatively stock still , if it has been rebuilt who knows what was done .
No 340 was ever used in trucks due to a lack of torque so this engine was installed in a car from the factory originally & transplanted into the truck , oddly the engine & truck year do line up though . The engine did originate from the Hamtramk plant
you will need a different K frame or mounts to put the engine into the cuda otherwise with the right mounts it will bolt in.

Cool , do some welding & bracing on the K frame before installing .
the same K frame will accept a LA , B or RB engine
