'71 Barracuda Hole Location
« on: September 18, 2015 - 12:21:16 PM »
I am searching for the specific measurements and/or pictures for the location of the hole in the floor for the down rod.
'71 Barracuda 440 BB / 727 Automatic setup.
I need firm measurements to the center of the hole in both directions as well as the size of the actual hole.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

1 Wild R/T - Connected to the shifter mechanism is the linkage (which that sits under the center console) which is connected to the down rod which actually goes down through the hole in the floor and connects to the side of the transmission.

Do you have the console brackets and/or the forward shifter pivot bracket in so someone can measure from those points?

FWIW the "down rod" goes through center of the flat spot with the three dimples which are where the screw holes go...  It should be pretty apparent..

I do not have the automatic console mounting brackets installed yet however I do have the measurements for the locations of where they go.  My car was originally a 3 speed on the floor so It does not have an automatic tunnel in it which is why I need the measurements for the hole.

When the factory cut the floor pan for the M/T hump they cut out the area where the rubber seal mounts... If you plan to weld in a section of floor by lining up the stampings you should have the flat area with the three dimples.... If your gonna leave the M/T hump the location for the hole will be straight in line with the upper shaft mount...

If you have the brackets and locations, the down rod (torque shaft) goes straight down from the hole in the forward bracket.  Should be easy to locate it that way.
