If you're starting up and warming up in Park, the trans pump isn't pumping. If you warm up in neutral, that may solve your problem.

I agree. I have a transgo shift kit and it always whines in reverse backing out of garage even when I let it pump up in neutral. I get a hard shift into 3rd and  a thump at low speeds also but when I'm on the throttle it works great. I generally manual shift so  that it's not so abrupt.

Challenger HK- your theory makes perfect sense. As I am new to the Mopar scene I have a  lot to learn about them. Actually, I did not know to check the AT fluid in neutral but when I did it and then backed it out, there was no
whine at all.

mopar jack- I am not sure if a shift kit was installed when the tranny was rebuilt but I suspect there was.  I, like you, figured this is what was producing the hard bump noise at the low speed shift point.

Guys, thanks for all the input. It's really awesome that someone can come here and get help with issue both minor and major. I hope I can give some assistance to someone at some point.

Cheers!
