I believe the studs go on the two ends and the one with the hex and the stud would go where the pre heater hose shield for the air cleaner if you have one goes. The end holes on the head go through the water jackets

Looks like you are missing the sleeve nuts that are used on 340's  :dunno:

This is the 340 kit from Mancini   :2thumbs:
Fits: 1968-70 340 HP

Yea..he has the 71+ kit.....Studs/nuts on the outer two ends and the bolts only fit in certain holes.

so I should or should not use these sleeve nuts? (which I do have, just missed in pic)

also should the 71 340 shaker cuda use the LH exhaust manifold gasket with spark plug wire heat shield?
(pic attached.)

Are you working on a 1971 340 ?
Are you using the correct 1971 340 exhaust manifolds ?

If so, then you don't have any sleeve nuts or spark plug heat shields :2cents:

yes, kinda...The engine is a 340 with 71 internals but I used a 70 340 block, as I could not locate 71 block,
and one manifold is actually a 72, (same reason) but was told they were correct style.

so here's my engine, and exhaust manifolds, are they correct for a 71?

so it is going into a 71 cuda, so I want to make it as they were originally.

if you use those manifolds then you do not need the heat sheild or sleeve nuts , those are used for the 70 upswept manifolds , you would make more power using the magnum manifolds if you are using incorrect ones anyway

Those are CORRECT 1971 340 manifolds, however the casting date on the one is more likely a 1972 car, same part number.

Using those manifolds as stated DO NOT require sleeve nuts or heat shields.

The posts above helped me sort out the manifold bolts for my 70 340.   I took a couple of pictures of the manifolds mocked up in case anyone reading this post later might find them helpful (heat shield gasket not installed yet).  The big help was the comment that the hex head bolts go on the ends since they go into the water jacket. The 4 short hex head bolts go on the extreme front and back ends of the manifolds on both sides.   The longer hex heads are on the driver side just inside the shorter hex heads.  The studs take care of the rest with either the sleeve nuts or regular nuts.
