Edelbrock shock absorbers failure.....
« on: October 15, 2015 - 04:02:25 PM »
One of my rear shocks failed over the weekend. I noticed as I suddenly had tire rub on the passenger side. When I got home I checked and when you push down on the body the shock absorber bottoms out.  :swear:

And after doing a search on the internet, Edelbrock no longer makes that brand.  :banghead:

So i need to replace my rear shocks......what are you running and how do you like them?

Make sure you get a shock with the correct length and stroke. You don't want it to bottom out. I'm using QA1 double adjustable and really like them. I can adjust for handling or a smooth ride. I didn't use the QA1 part #'s for an e-body though as my car is lower than stock and required a different part # . On QA1's web site they tell you how to measure to get the right part.

Thanks Brad, mine has the stock ride height. I will look at QA1's  I hate to replace all four as the other shocks have so few miles on them, even if they a four years old.  At a minimum I need to change out the rears.....but may do all four as Ik don't need to have ride issues running two different shock manufactures.

Just thinking out loud. Are you sure its shock failure ? A shock doesn't carry any load, only dampens the action of the spring. It also doesn;t help center the rear axle housing.  :dunno: I don't see how it could cause tire rub.  :clueless:  Just thinking.

Yes I am sure it the shock....My tires are right at the lip of the fender, 275/60 R15 as wide as I could get. It on the passenger side, which always seems to sit closer to the body than the driver side.

Chryco, I will contact Edlebrock.  You are right they have less then 10,000 miles on them.  However, they or anyone else list them as available right now. So even if they warrant it...they cant replace it.

I have four on my ford explorer sport trac.  It rides a bit harsh.  I see my rear shock is leaking too.  I just bought some Bilsteins to go on soon.  Need to change the brakes, and put my snow tires on soon.  Shocks will be at the same time.  I rode in my buddies Ranger and it rides a lot smoother with the Bilsteins.

I put Bilsteins on my Silverado 2500HD and they work great. What's the part number for a Cuda?
