Buy only passenger side E brake cable ?

Found this problem while checking things over. Its the long passenger side emergency brake cable.  2 questions......
1. Why did it happen ?
2. Is it possible to buy only the one cable ?  I've found only complete sets and not sure they are the same as what I have.

Looks like the outer coil got cut or snapped so when the pedal was pushed the inner casing collapsed outward .
 Not sure if you can buy individual cables , often Bumper to Bumper / Napa / Oreillys have parts like this so it is worth checking . a lot of the aftermarket stuff is the wrong length so be careful with that . AT least you can measure the one you have .

I never thought of the autopart chains. Seems like every time I think something is only going to be found through Roseville, Classic or YearOne, I find out that NAPA, etc  has it on their shelves !!   Kinda nice to get a pleasant surprise like that ever once in a while.
