Getting fuel to the carbs, whatcha think ?

    One of the things we still have to figure out is getting fuel to the engine.  We mounted the electric pump in the rear shock crossmember and installed an antiflow back valve so that once the pumps primed were in good shape. The "figure out" part is how to get the pump primed.  Only two ways to do it is pressurize the tank or pull fuel to the front. I really don't think pressurizing the tank will do the trick so I came up with this idea. I can hook the fuel line to one side and my A/C vacuum pump to the other side. I can modulate the vacuum with my A/C gauges.  My question is do you think as much as 30 inches of vacuum will break the glass. ?

Easiest way is slight pressure in tank. Put air hose in fill tube, hold a rag around it, couple easy blasts of air all it takes.

The electric pump should have enough power to prime itself with a switch prior to starting the engine.  Did you mount the pump slightly below the sending unit?  What pump did you use?

   Dan the pump is mounted above the tank so it's going to need help to prime. Also why we used an anti drainback valve.  The pump is an Edelbrock 1791.

With that much suck, I imagine the lid would fail first. Interesting experiment though. Wear some protection...

                      Did some research on this and found out the vacuum won't break the glass. So Dan, I'm going the moonshine route.    However I have to keep YellowThumpers comment in mind as the lid is very thin. However the lid is 2 piece design, and I have a bunch of these new jars  so I could stack several internal lid sections. Anyway, she is on her feet and I found a WAWA that sells pure gas, so tomorrow is test day. This is a link that explains the vacuum .

I really don't think the pump will have any trouble priming itself.  I ran several different electric pumps on the rear shock cross members for years, and never had a problem, even if the car sat for a long period of time.

I think you are over thinking this.

        Thanks Jason. I'm just going by the pump directions that say the pump has to be mounted lower than the pickup in the tank. I'm just going to do this to eliminate the possibility of hurting the pump.  But I do have that "overthinking it" problem.
