72 'cuda trunk lid torsion rod questions
« on: December 23, 2015 - 01:43:47 PM »
Hi,
My '72 'cuda did not have the trunk lid torsion rods installed when I bought the car. I have since bought two of these rods from someone and supposedly for an ebody. However I'm not sure if they are the correct ones. They measure about 49.5" long as shown in the pic. They appear to be too long unless I'm completely lost on how to install them...which I am.....so given that I have a couple questions.

1. What is the approximate length of a correct e-body trunk lid rod?

2. Does anyone have any clear pics showing how they are to be installed?

3. I believe I only need 1 rod for my car. Only one of the trunk lid hinge brackets have the tension adjustment slots. Did it vary by year as far as the number of torsion rods used?

Thanks in advance!

I have a 70 Challenger.   The torsion bar for the trunk lid is about 46 1/4" long.   I can't speak to whether this is the same piece used in your Cuda.   I only have one rod installed.   I can send a couple of pictures later today.

I have a '72 Challenger and it has two rods with opposite bends in them. They also have mounting slotted places on either side of the trunk. They measure 48-1/2" if that helps. I don't know maybe the Cuda has only one.

My '72 Cuda has a single rod. Since I have all the interior out and the deck lid still on I thought I may be able to get some photos to help.

Here is a tape hooked on the passenger side and pulled to the drivers side. Approximately distance is 42.5-42.75"

This is a shot of the passenger side-outside.

This is the passenger side from inside.

This is the drivers side from inside.

This is the drivers side shot from outside.

Hope these help. Let me know if you need to see anything more.

Happy Holidays,
Mickm

The pics are perfect MickM. Yeah....the rods I have are incorrect...grrrrrr. It's about 4.5" too long on the side where the bushing goes. Now I need to find a correct one.

Thanks all...Merry Christmas
