Epoxy primer for boat
« on: February 10, 2016 - 09:44:27 AM »
This is an epoxy primer (see link) mainly used for boats, under the waterline. I tried it on my subframe connectors almost 2 years ago, and the paint seems very good, hard and thick. I called the company, they say it will work fine under a car, does not have to have a top coat if I spray several coats of it. The only drawbacks is that it is sensitive to UV light, looses some of its color if exposed to the sun for a long time. And, it can not be overpained by some other type of paints. Wonder if anyone used it under and inside the car. The finish is semigloss black.

Looking the the manufacturers site now, I now see its only available in Europe, not in the US, so most of you guys are not familiar with it.

I am thinking it is anti-fowl paint. It is used to keep "things" from growing on the hull that is below the water line. It will fade in direct sun, but that stuff is hard to get off, so it might work for you. I have it on my boat and repaint it every so many years. It actually wears off sliding through the water over time. When it is first applied, it actually helps the top end speed of my 30' boat.

Ya, the price is up there. It has went up considerably in the last couple years. Think it is like $200/gallon+  :money: and probably higher across the pond where you are. It would take about a gallon and 1/2 to do the boat. They sell it by the quart too. I got it from an outfit called West Marine.  :2thumbs:
