Inline tube users?
« on: December 06, 2015 - 04:15:36 PM »
Wondering if anyone on here has ordered their pre-bent transmission cooler lines for a 70 challenger???  Did they fit?

I've got 10' of some of the really expensive braided PTFE hose for the external cooler.  Just want to route straight to the radiator first and prefer to use as much hard line as I can.  I'm embarrassed to say that I can't double flare to save my life!

Good luck with your re-lining. Most problems flaring stem from using an old, worn clamp and/or not tightening it properly when you attempt to do the flare. Use the step of the adapter to set the amount of pipe sticking above the clamp, tighten the clamp thoroughly at both ends and don't crank the bejeezus out of the flare tool while making the first forming move, then, again don't get rough when you form the second flare. Some guys mash the flared end out due to over tightening the tool. Practice on some 3/16 brake line sections you can buy cheaper and you'll be away to the races. Good luck

the key to double flaring is having a good tool. I bite the bullet and bought a hydraulic flaring tool with 45 and 37 degree dies. I can tell you that once you get a little experience, you will make flares that look factory.

On my 52 pickup, I ran hard lines from my transmission to a bracket just under to the left of the oil pan where I made a bracket, then went with flexible lines to my cooler. On my challenger I ran SS braided all the way from the trans to the radiator.

Yeah I have to do cooler lines and will eventually be doing all of my fuel lines as well.  It would be a good investment, but it's Christmas time and those hydraulic tools are EXPENSIVE!  Thanks for the comments.

I would like to try one of these as well

the hydraulic is nice but kind of a pain to use actually. it is designed to be hand held, but trying to hold the line, the tool and manipulate it all is a circus style balancing act. I have vowed to make a hold mechanism for it but never have.

The Eastwood unit doesn't look any easier to use than the Mastercool Hydraulic unit....   And if your dropping $190 you might as well drop $300 & get the Mastercool...
Most times I mount my mastercool in the vise but it can be used on the car free hand just takes practice... An extra hand would make it easier... I was just doing some quick connects last week...

Mastercool is what I have as well. I just about bought one of the Eastwood a few minutes ago because I like the fact you can put it into a vise easily. The Mastecool is a little difficult to do that, however as I said I need to make a mount for it.
