need HELP with 71 4 speed bracket??
« on: August 27, 2002 - 12:25:57 AM »
I just pulled the small block out of my 71 R/T and put in my old 383. found out the engine was not the #s matching one, but the 4 speed is.
anyway the shifter has been changed to a hurst super shifter, the problem I have is it sticks out to far to the left to mount the console. the mount that bolts to the transmission is a big steel bracket that measures about 2 inches from the tranny to where the shifter bolts on.
is this a stock piece? if not what is the stock piece suppose to look like? and if I change it will I still be able to use the super shifter and linkage?

all the ones i have seen that is stock is about an 1/2-3/4 of an inch thick alum. plate that bolts to the trans. looks something like a diamond, with three bolt holes that take special bolts.

We sell the correct part as shown above, go see our website www.surprisegarage.com/ Ours are made of solid brass so they won't break as the aluminum OEM ones could under hard shifting.  :)

Thanks for the info, the plate looks like the one they used on most 4 speed cars. thought they might have changed something when they started mounting the shifter on the rear of the tail shaft.
Badhemi I will be getting in touch with you to order one of your bronze plates. as soon as I can justify to my wife the 2 grand I spent to finish off the fuel injection system for my charger.

No problem Panda,

BTW, every application used a different shaped bracket. The one we sell is ONLY correct for 1970-74 E-bodies, or 1971-74 B-Bodies.
