The steering wheel "can" has a master spline so it only goes on one way. The wheel has a slot that goes into a key on the "can" so it can only go on one way as well. When you assemble the steering column shaft into the coupler, the notch on the front of the coupler should be pointing straight up and the steering wheel should be at the centered position (if that makes sense). Thats the way I remember it anyway. I'll take a photo of a coupler tomorrow if needed.
