Gas cap
« on: September 09, 2016 - 06:06:32 AM »
Hi , I have a 1973 challenger with a standard gas cap, I am looking to change it with the R/T flip top type. Will it fit on my car without modifying my car ?
Thanks, Gary

Yes, four screws, just understand the flip top cap is a decoration only, you need a second cap underneath it to keep the fuel in...

Agreed, What I have done instead of using a rag that most people do. I took the guts out of my standard cap and bent the "ears" up so I can use that as the actual cap under the flip top.

Huh?  Would like to see a pic of that.
You can get a locking gas cap for $10.

Yes but you need a specific type to get it to work, I bought one on EBay which was "guaranteed" to work  soooo I got fed up and did that. I'll upload a photo.

I am sure there are other vendors, but I bought one from year-one because I was ordering the complete set of wire harnesses for my car. It works just fine and for $20, is better than an oem $500 cap.
