Rear end gear/TC advice needed
« on: December 07, 2015 - 09:42:39 AM »
So, my ongoing project is going to get a $$ boost and I am going to be able to finish getting all my parts together.

This is what I have-

1973 Barracuda 360/904 3.55 open

I have a 6.1 and a 518 to install. I plan on keeping the hemi stock(or at least stock-ish). What I am looking for is advice so I only have to buy this crap once. For a street(rarely strip) machine, one that is comfortable to drive around town and freeway miles, what advice for the gear do you have for me? Oh, will be using 17' wheels as well.

With the OD I am thinking maybe 3.73 or 3.91, am I on the right track? Once I get that nailed I can figure out the TC.

In Afghanistan right now and am ordering parts for when I get back-just bought shocks and Tbars.

Also trying to figure out which radiator, read a few bad things about Champions, good price but questionable quality I think.

Thanks

Jason

I have 3:54 rear gear with an OD and now wish I had went with 3:73 , but it all depends on what the cam likes/wants at 65 MPH . I vote 3:73. As for a TC I'd go for 2000-2500  stall speed for a street car.

I have a Champion radiator in my Challenger and haven't ever had any problems with it getting hot at all or leaks.  I drove it on some hot days this summer in the 90's in town. I also won best Challenger and two best Mopar trophys this year so it couldn't look too bad under the hood.

Sticking with the stock cam.

With that gear, what are you turning on the freeway? Tire size?

Brillow1974

That's exactly the info I need! What fan setup are you running?

I'm running all stock clutch fan set up but a higher volume water pump nothing fancy. I went with the pump since I was replacing the cam but I think it would have been fine with the OEM pump.
