SEM primer aerosol

Anyone use SEM high build or self etching primer in an aerosol can? Read a lot of good reviews on some other hot rod forums.

Im not starting a debate just giving my  :2cents:

Every single sem product i have used has been top quality , that being said do your reasearch on how the specific product your using is designed to be topcoated with, and how.

I have used the sem high build on interior parts , and top coated with sem trim black .. Worked awesome.

If your using it on the body , be diligent with your research to make sure its compatable with your "paint system"

Most 1 part primers dont play nice with 2part paint ...

Good luck :)

SEM makes grate products! there self etch primer is vary good. I have used it to spot in small areas of bare metal, then 2 part surfacer, then base/clear. I don't think I would use rattle can primer then use A spray gun top coat over it. :2cents:

What about a topcoat of their single stage hot rod black over the top? I'll be using this on an old gas pump project not the car.

But if it went well I would think about using it on the car...would make prepping in stages, panel by panel a lot more feasible for the home hobbyist with limited space. Nuts?

I used it on my shaker bubbles. I would not use any aerosol products on large body panels though, just way too much at risk. If I have a problem with a shaker bubble I can refinish it with a few hours work and I don't have to match the rest of the car.

works great!

Lots of cleaning before use and they will work great every time.

What have you used it on? Ever exterior panels?

Try it on a peice of scrap metal   Before you. Put it on you gas pump .  Sem products seem to have alot of solvent in them and need alot of flashoff time. Sem tech sheets tell you all the compatable products for each product.

*****As for panel by panel on you car you would save alot of money in if you bought a cheap hvlp gun and  a quality 2k primer   To spot prime with ,  (example  $15 bucks for 4oz can of 1k aerosal .   Or $ 50 bucks for half a gallon of  quality 2k epoxy prime or prime surfacer).  The payback is fast if your doing an entire car.

Mostly interior parts. works great

I've used the etching primer on engines, then painted the engine and have had decent success rate.
