1971 Barracuda Vinyl Top Trim
« on: March 05, 2016 - 06:14:06 PM »
I have a question for the E-body Archeologists:

Here is something odd, that i just noticed on my next project, a 1971 Barracuda.  It was originally a vinyl top car, and i have been thinking of keeping it that way. While i was looking at the rear filler panel at the bottom of the rear window, i noticed that the driver side has studs welded to the panel, and around to the driver side quarter panel all the way to the quarter window - they are smooth on the back side. And I know in '71, the changed from the push-in clips (like on my GC), to metal studs.  But on the passenger side, from the middle of the filler panel all the way to the passenger quarter glass, the studs are threaded with a nut on the back side.   Is it a standard thing to have one side welded, and the other threaded??

Are you talking about the clips that hold the vinyl top trim on? All the ones I did, the clip locks on the trim and the trim is attached to the body with a nut on the other side of the panel.

I am in the process of replacing that panel on the 71 GC and it has holes for clips, no studs.  :2thumbs:

Here are some pics, running from Drivers side to Passenger side:

It seems just seems so strange that one side is one way, and the other side another way.  :clueless:

I went and looked again. It isn't a threaded stud, but the threaded positioning clip that you find on the end of the trim.  They are just used entirely on the passenger side, including at the quarter glass window.
