A shop in Tennessee has a '75 440 block built to a new 493 stroker. Ready for heads, cam, chain, oil system, etc. Priced at $3300.  Sound in range?

Well it should have 2K in parts if they are quality parts + you have cleaning & machining the block , new cam brgs & frost plugs , maybe balancing depending where the parts are sourced & if they are balanced & assembly , so it seems reasonable .

Kinda sounds like a 440 source engine...Doesnt it?  Not sure of the level of hp you are trying to hit. What kind of valve pockets and is it inverted pistons, flat tops or dome.   Has it been lined bored and had main studs or bolts. You may be happier with a B engine block.  You did not give a very good description either. A guy comes down from Tenn to my shop often and buys a lot of parts and blocks from me. He is a one man operation though and races a Daytona. He does good work.

Is that the engine in Clarksville?  If so that guy is a local racer.

I don't have costs in front of me, but I'm pretty sure I have about that, maybe more $ wrapped up in my 493 short block.

Check the numbers on the block to the 440 Source block page.  A 75 block was built heavier, with thicker webbing, and reinforcements.  440 Source called them "Super Block".  I picked up a block out of a motorhome for $125, got it home, checked the numbers and it came up "Super Block" by pure luck.  I had it cross bolted on the mains.  My builder said the bottom end shouldn't go anywhere.  Said I could go with a supercharger with just a piston change.  I suppose it all depends on what you want to do with it.
