Opinions wanted for a great build
« on: January 17, 2016 - 07:26:04 PM »
Hi guys, although I know it will be slow I want to start building my car. I want to start planning and I'm wondering what you guys think would be best.

My car: 1970 Cuda was a 383 4-speed, has a Dana 60 w/4.10 under it that was built for a '70 E-body (I believe for a V-code or Hemi car)

I have 2 different 383 engines (non-running), a regular A833 4-speed, an OD A833 4-speed, many parts for the car although I don't have most of the underhood parts.

My goal: I want to build it to look like an AAR. I want a car that is reliable and fun and I plan on driving it often. I want to put A/C in it so my wife and I can drive it for 3 or 4 days one way and still be comfortable. I don't plan on racing it but still want it to be exciting to drive.  I'm not concerned with original as it's not a #'s car.
I will be building it on a fairly low budget over the next few years. I was thinking a 451 Stroker would be the way to go but not sure. If so, which cam and stock heads would work best (I have a few sets of heads). I originally thought I would put in a 6.1 Hemi but that seems expensive and I want to get it on the road at some point.
Would that overdrive 4-speed work well with this car or not strong enough to stand up? What would you do with the diff...change it to a 3.54 ratio? Or just run the tallest tire that I can fit. I don't think I want to modify that rear to fit bigger tires. I'm not against selling some of the parts that I have to obtain parts that would work better. Anyway, feel free to let me know what you think. I know many guys here have way more experience than I do.
Thanks for reading.

Well the 383 will ube up to 436 with 440 rank & rods , Short pistons ,this is a great combo , my preference is the 915 or 516 heads ported with 1.81 / 208 valves so you get flow & quench . The OD trans will work great , you need to mahine the front brg retainer down to 4.80 " assuming you have a belhousing with the 4.8" hole . you will need one to make this work  & flip the 3/4 lever & tweak the shift rod for clearance to make it all work .
