My job is up and down, not very secure, nothing for months then suddenly I work 24/7 for 6 months...
Sound recording/design/mixing for movies, TV and music recording.
Right now its an old school Rock'n'Roll album for a few weeks. This is todays session:

10-15 years ago I made pretty good money on just the music, that income has been reduced 90% with the loss of record sales. Streaming and downloads do not pay well, record companies wont pay much for recording albums anymore. (unless youre a superstar). Movies are better, still OK budgets there.
That little burst from the guitar guy was pretty cool.     :2thumbs:

:iagree:
Automation and computers have replaced some manual labor jobs. But, someone has to build (---CHINA---) and program (---INDIA---) those systems. Carriage manufactures were replaced by automobile manufactures and mass production processes replaced individual craftsmanship.  Typewriter and Adding machine companies were replaced by the computer your using now.

Going way back, Richard Reardon "saved" Mattel from bankruptcy. One of his touted great achievements. But reality is that he eliminated all the manufacturing here and shipped it to China, Indonesia. Saved the company but not any real jobs to speak of.
A country this large will not prosper with a service industry economy.  Manufacturing of all varieties supports many sub companies where as service companies support very few subs.

China assures my future.... The low quality crap they supply means I'm being sen all over the US & the world to fix equipment thats failing at a ludicrous rate.... 10-15 years ago most of our components were sourced through Mitsubishi, Motorola, & a few specialized vendors in the Silicon Valley.... I helped assemble, install maintain our equipment & train maintenance & operators... Now all I do is service & I'm busier than I want to be because of the number of failed Chinese sourced junk components.....

I am a pilot for a major fractional airline. The job is looking up with the new contract we just got as for automation it has its place on the flight deck but I don't think you want a pilotless plane :cooldancing:

Work as an Officer at a Federal Prison teaching Inmates how to cook (rehabilitation for when released). I'd say I'm pretty secure as there will always be inmates. The government shut down every other year gets out but that's the name of the game.

Doesn't airbus have a completely automated flight control system approach? ...understanding a pilot will always be there, i've heard it's pretty wild, like the automation does all the work

Yeah they got them but we are sitting there monitoring prepared to disengage and take over. They don't taxi in and out either.  That's my real reason :ylsuper:

I work on large ship to shore container cranes, and smaller rubber tire gantry cranes. More automation means more work for me. Keep buying Chinese junk and my job is secure.

I'm in automation and computers. Programming logic mostly. Some field installation work.
Job is pretty secure as far as I know. But if I lost my job I could be employed again pretty fast I think.
No Chinese parts, mostly German, Finnish, some American.

Hopefully ok.  I have two careers.  I'm a farmer and a memorialist.  Farming for me is a bit of a question mark because my Dad and Uncle are the principle operators right now and if you look down the line of succession I'm on the bottom of the list.  Darn being the youngest in the family!  Hopefully there is still enough room for me to work during the busy seasons.  That's why I got in the monument industry ten years ago, to hedge against not being able to farm full time.  I own my own shop so hopefully I can keep it going.  I've increased business since I bought out the previous owner but the economy really swings business and you never know if competition is going to come in.  So I just work hard, try to treat people right, and try new things when I can.  Hope I'm at it 25 years from now and I'd be a really happy guy.
