Gas Monkey
« on: January 14, 2016 - 09:02:09 PM »
dang, they put that hellcat motor in a Dart, and ran the 1/8 in 5.84.
which is about a 9.12 1/4 mile! Not bad for first time out!
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Yeah, in a back-halved, gutted race car using a PowerGlide. check out what Dave Frieburger has to say about their little race, where GMG totally ignored the restrictions and yet only won by a fender. I was unsure when I first saw GMG and haven't tuned in lately, since Richard seems to have morphed into a dick, who gets off beating others in a deal above all else. Just my  :2cents:

does a power glide make that much of a difference over a built 727 with a good converter??

I watched the show and enjoyed, far better than GYC I will say. I like GMG and while some may think they didnt adhere to the rules, it was entertaining nonetheless. I like the guys at Roadkill as well and they gave it a valient effort, but a full B body with all the crap verses a stripped out dart isnt a fair fight.

I saw the episode.  Kudos to the folks at DiabloSport for getting the Dart running.  If you can't make it in NHRA, you got to start somewhere?

The Roadkilled guys should not have brought that boat to the fight. Although they did add NOS to their setup while GMG turned up the boost.

I think Aaron could have done an even better time as he kept getting in it and out of it and had no idea how to launch a trans brake setup.

good show overall. I watched the roadkill episode as well and had those guys thought of it, they would have stripped out their car as well. Also, GMG threw tons of $$ at thier car whereas RK focused on just getting thier car to run along with getting the original Hellcat Charger to work.

You look at the very first season of Rick's BS restoration. They showed pics of his tools. it it a small set of screwdrivers, pliers chisels and nothing else. Maybe a hammer.
You look at ASS Monkey, same thing. Look at some of the people they have employed.
Do you remember the episode they took an old Bronco, spent $60,000 on restoring it, and then sold it for$60,000? LOLOLOLOL F   u   c   k   me. No WAY IN HELL!
Believe what you want to believe.

If you ever watch Ass Monkey, look at the camera facing up while they are driving. No matter what they are driving. Not even a headliner. PURE BS! lol. NOTHING is ever finished. IT"S ALL FAKE.

Dude might be the coolest guy ever, might have won some world class off road races, but this show sucks.

Well, if you go to the strip, you'll see lots of 'Glides behind everything up to and including Top Dragster and you'll have to work pretty hard to find a 727 other than in a stock class. Don't get me wrong, I think the TF is a great trans, it's just because of the amount of development-read money- that's been done on the 'Glides and sometimes it's just more expedient to not reinvent the wheel.

So, will a Glide make my Cuda faster on the street? I have a built 727 TF with a 3500 stall, and reverse manual valve body.

its about time, a power glide only shifts once (1st to 2nd), therefore time is saved. A power glide is great for a drag car but would be miserable on the street (IMO). You can do essentially the same thing with a manual valve body 727.

Best part of the episode was that they crossed out the d on the dart and called it the "Shart Cat"  :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley:

GMG provides a visual representation of what it means to be a tool and a poser.

low hanging god-y jewelry and v-necks have no place in a real auto shop.

I like the gas monkey show, regardless of the work they do, the show is good entertainment.  Richard is a bit of a tool, ok, but he's all about cars, babes, and beer. I'd have a beer with the guy!

At least Richard isn't repeatedly saying how he is the only one in the world that knows the cars and that no one can match his skill. In fact Richard states quite frequently he isn't a mechanic. I think overall they build some decent vehicles given the time they are working with. I do get tired of the 7 day builds and constant stressed atmosphere due to time. I believe that Aaron is very talented and does produce some decent cars; whether they are worth what they ask or not is between them and the buyer (assuming these are real sales).
