Shaker cable binds only when it's curved
« on: February 01, 2016 - 11:39:31 PM »
Just got around to putting the hot & cold air door on in the shaker.

With the Bubble off upside down and the cable straight, it works fine.
But as soon as I curve it like it's supposed to be, it's too stiff to operate the doors.

I bought it from DCS. Any suggestions?
Mike, Fremont, CA.

Have you tried to lub it? I cannot say I have a lot of experience with shaker cables, but I do with heater cables and I have run into this with them. Sometimes (especially when new) they seem to drag against the inner lining. I use white lithium grease and have even used a motorcycle cable lubrication tool (it pierces the outer housing allowing you to squirt lub into the cable) to get them working.

good luck.

Graphite spray made no difference.

Hmmm has to be dragging somewhere inside it in the liner. Maybe a liquid lubricant would work better.

Where can I get a motorcycle lubricating tool for the cable?
Or should I send it back?

Agree, since it is new I would talk to the people you got it from.

Any motorcycle shop will have the lubrication tool.

"A tool" !?!?!?    Oh my god people. Cut a piece of construction paper or thin plastic from a jug of some sort and twist it into a funnel. Fasten it with a screw driver clamp. Pour some of your favorite lube into it and let it hand over night. :D

Btw, I've lubed mine enough and even used an air hose hoping it might do some good and mine still binds. I think its just a bad design with too many hinges and cables.
