« on: February 05, 2016 - 12:52:40 PM »
In 1969 what were the factory compressions for a 383 motor?

Thanks.

Advertised or measured?  Advertised 10-1     http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/dealerships/DealershipDataBook/1969/69_Charger0011.jpg

Measured typically in the  8.6-1 to 9-1 range...

With the short stroke & large chamber volume it's a challenge to build compression...

383 l code was lower compression than the Magnum N code
realistically all the blocks are higher deck than speced at so realistic is more as wild said lower than advertised , blueprinted using thin shim head gaskets & true volumes you can get lose to 10:1

Can I tell if it is a I code or N code without digging into the block?

Thanks.

If it still has it's original pistons & it has HP stamped on the pad then it'll be high 8's low 9's C/R wise...
