I have an all original body and paint 74 Challenger. Have had it since 83.
Base model 318 car.
Original exhaust was already changed to headers when I purchased it.
There is a witness of a similar sized bracket on passenger side frame rail. That said, I most likely had the same bracket you have pictured. Same bolt thread on drivers side rail but never used. It is covered in undercoat.
Always thought the 2 small bolts that protrude thru the trunk (attached to a plate on the trunk inside) were insufficient for a exhaust pipe hanger. I suspect now they are a mount for the heat shield. With the hanger mounted to the frame.

The 2 bolt thru-trunk mounts are actually rear muffler hanger brackets...

Here is some info I have from 73 parts book, just for information... and nothing here resembles the frame offset bracket we discussed... gotta love it!

The fact is that not many 72-74 E-bodies are restored to factory spec.  The 70 and 71s have a much larger following and sell for a lot more when done.  It stands to reason that the more popular cars would be the ones that are researched and documented more extensively.  Since most parts will fit all years, no one really cared to research the small differences in the later years.  Most people with 72-74 cars just build them the way they want and don't concern themselves with finding factory correct parts.  I'm glad you are one of the few who appreciate the later cars and want to return it back to stock condition.

 :)

Thanks, Burdar... If I didn't have the original engine, I probably would not be as concerned... and while I'm not purchasing date-correct exhaust components and such, I'd like to keep it somewhat close to the way it was coming off the line...

While I would love to have a 70-71 hemi cuda, my budget won't quite support a caviar diet on a chips and salsa income....

Thanks for the pics.
I do wonder if there is a difference in hangers between Barracudas and Challengers because the exhaust exits in different locations.

FWIW I parted a couple 73-74 Challengers back in the 80's that had the exhaust brackets hung off the frame rail so it's definitely no Cuda only... I still have a pair of the brackets somewhere... I stumble across them every few years....

Thanks, now my brain can move on to other things...
Also I noticed the 73 pics above do not depict the E body exhaust tips. So they may not be factual for our cars.
