Is my dizzy broke?
« on: February 14, 2016 - 05:33:35 PM »
I'm putting the Cuda's 360 engine back together after a rebuild. I noticed there is a few degrees of distributor rotor rotation (slop?)between where the advance springs stop and where the rotor actually stops turning. This leads me to believe there is some amount of ignition timing before the advance starts working. Is this correct? If not, what's wrong and what is the fix? I would think this would cause erratic timing at idle.

factory used 2 springs , a very light one that is tight & a heavier one with a loop at one end allowing some movement before the heavier spring adds the extra load

Yep. I checked them both. There is about .050 movement (a little more than a reluctor tooth width) movement before I see any spring movement or feel any resistance. I'll disassemble it to get a better look. Maybe I'm looking for a problem where there is none. Just lookin' for peace of mind.
