Yes you can remove the OEM regulator. There is a splice in the engine wiring harness forward of pin 23. The dark blue wire which feeds the reg and field positive is connected there. Do you have a wiring diagram? If not i can forward a PDF to you.

Thanks, but I've got one. Problem is, this is a Frankenstein car that had a hack job "restorer" lol.... That's all you can afford when you're on a budget! Just need some clarification sometimes, I enjoy the challenge though, thanks for the help.

I'm making my own harmess and getting really good at it.  I feel stupid for not using solder flux paste in the past, it makes wiring so much easier

Got ya. Your much better off making your own harness since you can use a much better grade of wire and increase the wire gauge sizes where needed. The OEM factory harness was borderline at best 40+ years ago not to mention that some of those Packard 56 connectors @ the bulkhead are drastically overloaded (ammeter circuit, headlights etc). Alt. bypass and adding headlight relays are a great idea. Don't forget a fuse link where needed.

Here is a source (small qty) for Packard 56 connectors up to 10-12 gauge:
