Don't know why anyone watches these shows. 
As much as I hate to say it, its the same reason anyone watches football, or dance shows.... some people find it entertaining. To each his own.
Regarding car shows.... I watch because I think some are funny, and second, some of them are informative. They are reality shows though, so the scripting is something you just have to deal with. Like all of hollywood, it ISNT real....its entertainment.
After a long day of work, I like watching wheeler dealers, and the stupid antics at gas monkey, graveyard cars, fat and furious and even the idiots at misfit. Heck, those guys, Thomas specifically, I think its hilarious how they talk to some guy Thomas is buying from who wants $10k for his car (and says he's a good negotiator)
then Thomas offers him $2500, and the guy says no, how about $5k
and then Thomas says, well, Maybe $3k, and the guys finally says, how about $3200, and they agree.
Then Thomas puts $100 and a couple hours into the car and flips it for $10k
