take it off ?
« on: June 10, 2005 - 04:46:21 PM »
What determines if you do a body off resto or not?
Obviously money is key. Time. what your looking to do with it. Show or weekend ride.

But what else?

How good of a job can you do without the body off?

Let me say first of all, I am NOT a body man. To me , it would seem like the determining factor would be what kind of shape the frame is in. If it's solid, I can't imagine why you would take the body off.  :dontknow: OK, I let myself open to all those who know better.  :grinyes:

Every person has to determine when or if his or her car needs a frame off.......technically a Mopar is a unibody construction and unlike Chevys you cant have a frame off, BUT! that being said you can do a rottiserrie.......probably didnt spell that right........for me I have contemplated the same thing.......the things I considered were ......1.    The fair market value of my car in #1 show car shape........If your car is not a high dollar hemi or a numbers matching 6 pack car then perhaps the (return) on your dollars spent are not worth the money spent .......obviously if you would have a car worth say $50,000 or more....( I dont exactly know) then it may be worth your time.   But if you have a non matching numbers car, or a small block, 383 or 440 then you have to weigh the options......   2.   Do I want a trailer queen that I want to win the big big shows?     Well how many times do you really attend those shows......probably not often.    And its hardly worth spending $40,000 or more on a $20,000 or $25,000 car to win a $35 trophy.......  I recently went to Mopar show in Indy and very few cars were not sprayed with undercoating on the bottom.....  What I think is most important is fit and finish.......quality body work and attention to detail doesnt always mean you have to spend the Big $$$   Not so hard to strip the inner fenders or firewall and make them look fresh.   At 90% of the shows you attend most people could care less if your small parts were factory original with NOS or original parts.    Most people could care less if your exhaust have resonators, or the original carb, or original motoror the original tips instead of repops........They do like to see bigblocks and attn to detail when they look at the car.....  Oh well everyone has their opinion and like rear ends this one is mine.........If you have the money and enjoy making everything to be the best then go at it.........
