Interested.  Is this for manual or power steering?

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

Good question. The Hotchkis link says for small sector shaft. But they don't state any difference between manual or power steering.  Can someone weigh in on this.    :1zhelp:

I'll call them tomorrow.  If it's for manual steering I'll take it.

FYI, just called Hotchkis and they said it works with either power steering or manual steering.  However, it only fits small "sector" shaft boxes like Flamning River.  I've got a email into Year One to find out if the box I bought from them (haven't' received it yet) is a Flaming River box and/or has a small sector shaft.

Yea 70 and I believe 71 used the small 1 1/8 inch sector shaft. 72 and later used 1 1/4 inch sector. This kit would be for small 1 1/8 inch shaft.

Below is the message I received from Year One.  Based on this, I'm going to have to wait until I receive the steering box from them.   :-\

Hello Brad

Thank you for purchasing from Year One.
This steering gear is not from Flaming River. The information does not state the shaft size and this is currently out of stock, so I can't measure one from the shelf. The info implies this has the larger shaft, but to be sure, I suggest you measure the shaft when you receive the steering box and before you order the Hotchkis fast ratio parts.

Regards
Year One

Thats cool. But that would really chap my a$$ that whoever they are sourcing the box from can't even verify shaft diameter  :clueless:   It was easy for me to look up the Flaming River FR 1540 box which is small shaft. And to say " I suggest you measure when you receive it. " Another reason NOT TO BUY FROM YEAR ONE.   :2cents:    And being out of stock, just hope you get it before you die of old age.   :roflsmiley:   No harm meant sir, just I have been thru the YO hoops to many times.

The pitman arm will not fit any manual steering box.  The splines on the power box changed in '73 but the splines on the manual gear never did; it was the same from '60-'80.  I believe it was a 1.004" sector shaft but don't hold me to it.

The 70/71 parts manual shows the same part number pittman arm for manual or power steering.
