Standard gauge cluster restoration?
« on: March 19, 2016 - 08:48:02 PM »
I'm about a point to have my gauge cluster and bezels put into motion. I have a standard cluster for a 1973 Barracuda.  I was thinking of having it restored and found a company in Virginia  named Auto Instruments. Has anyone used this company?  They seem pretty knowledgeable and more affordable than some others.  My gauges aren't too bad and probably needs the speedometer rebuilt and the other gauges just cleaned.  I was thinking of cleaning and painting the plastic bezel and light controls myself. Any thoughts?

Also, this is an A/C car so what do people normally due with that control mechanism?

I've seen quite a few new gauges and am trying to decide on which way to go at around $650 - $1000 based on quotes for the restoration.

Can't speak for AC control, but used them for a speedometer & tachometer rebuild and quartz movement for the clock in my '70 Challenger rallye dash. I just sent the instruments to them. They did good work and turn around time was about 4 weeks, but I sent them in over the winter.

Thanks.  They are at 8-10 weeks now.  Instrument Specialties is within driving distance for me but they are out 6 months.
