727 torque converter, replace flush etc.
« on: March 23, 2016 - 10:41:24 AM »
guys and gals,

I have a torque converter from a 71 727 Ebody 340.
my question is fluid looks clean and did not find any metal pieces,
but do you recommend to flush it, split it or simply replace it.
I would like to use it as it is the correct original.
do most replace, or have them rebuilt at a certified shop?
is to be put into a otherwise completely restored car.

It is now 45 years old , I would lean towards replacing it , do you know the history on it , have you run it before ?

:iagree:   The converter could be full of trash & distroy a new trans or the converter could just be damaged & not work properly anymore .

Replace because it is lower cost insurance for higher cost transmission

He's running a 400 block... are those internally balanced?  Was a 71 340 internal or external balanced ?
