8 3/4 rear disc brake kit , rim mounting point?
« on: March 27, 2016 - 09:18:02 AM »
Anyone that has done a rear disc brake conversion, can you tell me if the wheel placement changed at all as far as depth, my tires are very tight and if they change more than a quarter of an inch I will hit, I'm thinking the thickness of the brake drum surface and the thickness of the rotor surface where it touches the axle plate will be different, or are there any other depth changes in the kit? And I understand there are numerous kits available,  just looking for a little input , thanks in advance

I would say that the rotor mounting surface ( the design that slips over the studs)  will be thicker than a drum mounting surface. I would guess maybe 1/8" thicker than a drum?  :dunno:

:wavingflag: When i did my changeover the was no noticeable difference. I used a 13 in wilwood kit.

For the DrDiff kits, not sure about the rears - a quick email to Cass would clear that up.  I do know the stage 3 and 4 _front_ kits extend the track width by 3/16" per side.

I agree with Brad70 on the additional thickness, but, I spoke with Cass, if you go to non adjustable bearings, you gain an 1/8 due to removing the drum backing plate from memory

I got a sure grip 8.75 with 11 inch drums.  Seemed way too much hassle to put them on the rear?
something about clips and stuff.
I did put them on the front.

Thanks for the help , I already have green bearing thes so if that changes,  that's already figured in on mine,  Im still figuring the rotor mounting surface is more , a buddy if mine just ordered a kit , so now I should be able to spec all of his stuff and compare to mine now
